FOR AGES 6-18

Junior golf program.

Introducing golf and the values it incorporates to young aspiring golfers is something we love. To do this effectively, our Junior Golf Program is built on six clear levels, each with their own objectives and goals. These allow junior golfers and their parents or guardians to easily measure their progress.

Anyone can be a junior golfer if they’re aged between 6 and 18.

Our PGA Professional coaches, top facilities, and incredible landscape make weekly lessons a rewarding and fun experience.

The key objectives of the programs are to:

  • Inspire a new generation to take up golf
  • Educate boys and girls on golfing techniques
  • Provide a safe space to play a fun sport
  • Make the course available for practise.

6 LEVELS

Junior golf program levels.

Beginning at a Rookie level, junior golfers will rank through to Star, Master, Grand Master, Champion, and Elite. The program follows a manageable order that allows golf students to steadily develop their skills. Along with ongoing and active participation, each level has its own requirements that need to be met for advancement. Golf skills tests will take place regularly to give the junior golfers a chance to show what they’ve learnt.

Level 1: Rookie

The beginning lessons will introduce students to the basics of golf while being fun. This is perfect for kids aged from 6 who haven’t been on a golf course before and are brand new to the sport.

Rookies will learn:

  • Fundamentals: Grip, stance and posture
  • Swing movements: Putting, chipping and others
  • Golf information: About etiquette and golf clubs.

These are required on a Basic level to advance to Level 2, Star:

  • Putting: Score at least 27 over 9 holes putting
  • Chipping: Hit every fifth chip shots on the green close to the hole
  • Pitching: Hit every fifth shot onto the green over a bunker

Level 2: Star

The second level will get junior golfers onto the green (the short course) for instructions and real play. This will get them comfortable playing courses, while practising their skills in an encouraging environment.

Stars will learn:

  • Short game play on the short course
  • Golf rules and terminology.

These are required on an intermediate level to advance to Level 3, Master:

  • Putting: Score at least 24 over 9 holes putting
  • Chipping: Hit 2 out of 5 chip shots on the green close to the hole
  • Pitching: Hit 2 out of 5 shots onto the green over a bunker

Level 3: Master

The 7 key golf shots will make an appearance as junior golfers get professional training around each one. These shots will become the foundation of their golfing development.

Masters will learn:

  • The 7 golf shots (drive, hybrid, iron, pitch, chip, bunker, putt)
  • The 7 fundamental golf rules.

These are required on an advanced level to reach Level 4, Grand Master:

  • Putting: Score at least 21 over 9 holes putting
  • Chipping: Hit 3 out of 5 chip shots on the green close to the hole
  • Pitching: Hit 3 out of 5 shots onto the green over a bunker
  • Bunker playing: Hit 3 out of 5 shots onto the green from a bunker

Master junior golfers will also need to participate regularly in clinics and school holiday camps to advance.

Level 4 : Grand Master

This is the next step from learning the 7 main shots. It’s suited to regular junior golf players seeking a golf handicap.

Grand Masters will continue to learn:

  • The 7 golf shots (drive, hybrid, iron, pitch, chip, bunker, putt)
  • The 7 fundamental golf rules.

These are required on an advanced level to reach Level 5, Champion:

  • Putting: Score at least 18 over 9 holes putting
  • Chipping: Hit 4 out of 5 chip shots on the green close to the hole (within 2 meters)
  • Pitching: Hit 3 out of 5 shots onto the green over a bunker

Level 5: Champion

The Champion level symbolises a junior golfer who has mastered the basic swings and strategies of golf.

To reach Champion level, a junior golfer must achieve a 9 hole golf handicap.

Goal: Obtain and improve a 9 hole handicap.

Champion level junior golfers will receive:

  • Full playing rights at St Lucia Golf Links
  • Weekly training sessions held through each school term

Level 6: Elite

The sixth and final level for our junior golfers is the Elite level.

Goal: Achieve an 18 hole handicap.

Elite level junior golfers will have access to a superior elite training and practise program for rapid improvement.

Online coaching system.

Our coaching incorporates the top Golf Student management system in the world for our elite juniors. Its purpose is to continue the PGA Professional coaching from our famous course greens to kids’ computer screens.

Junior golfers can revisit what they’ve learnt and can (along with their parents or guardians) keep track of their progress. This provides junior golfers an extra learning edge that speeds up their progression and increases the value of the Development Program.

The online coaching system can be used online or in the app, and includes:

  • Profiles with personal golfing information
  • Coaching and tips for desktops and smart phones
  • Lesson diaries with their PGA Professional
  • Scorecards (where you can follow friends)
  • Exclusive opportunities, including events.
